The program, titled Breathe, selects 200 applicants to receive these payments over the course of two years. The window for this application opens at 6:00 AM on June 20 and closes at 11:59 PM on July 3

The program selected 1,000 people last year to receive $1,000 every month for three years, and now the program is adding another 200 people who will receive the same amount every month for two years, a Los Angeles County spokesperson told the Washington examiner.
The previous 1,000 recipients were randomly selected from a pool of eligible applicants.
To be eligible for this new application window, an applicant must be at least 21 years old and must not have turned 24 before September 1, 2023. In addition, applicants must be a former Los Angeles County Department of Children and Families foster child who was in care on or after their 18th birthday.
Other requirements that applicants must meet include household income at or below 100% of the median income of a single person household or 120% of the median income of a household of two or more people. Applicants must also have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and not currently enrolled in any other guaranteed income program.

The University of Pennsylvania and other local and national research partners will conduct a randomized control trial to measure the results of this project. While participants are not required to participate in the study in order to receive the $1,000 monthly payments, those who do will be asked to periodically provide information about various aspects of their overall health and well-being and will receive a gift certificate. of $30 for every survey they do. completely.
Similarly, 2,000 applicants were also randomly selected to participate in the study as part of the ‘control group’. This group will not receive $1,000 payments each month, but will be asked to complete periodic surveys and interviews; they are also rewarded with a $30 gift card for each survey they complete.
