Illinois also implemented two types of stimulus payments in 2022 that extend to Summer 2023. The individual income tax deduction and the property tax deduction can jointly amount to $700. However, due to the large number of payments to be delivered-more than six millionthe state expects the distribution process to take several months. Eligibility for the income tax credit was based on the 2021 AGIs below $200,000 (or $400,000 for joint filers), while the property tax credit required payment of the Illinois state property tax on the 2021 return and an AGI below $250,000 (or $500,000 for joint applicants).

The waiting time for the Maine Winter Energy Relief Payment has ended, requiring residents to file their 2021 tax returns by October 31, 2022. However, eligible residents who have not yet received their payment can contact the state’s tax advisor before June 30 to demonstrate eligibility. Final payments for those who prove eligibility will continue through September 30, 2023.

The income tax reduction is determined as the lesser of the income tax on the state income tax form or $2,500 for joint applicants ($1,250 for others). The discount on the withholding tax on real estate amounts to $500 for 2023 (and 2024) or the actual amount of property taxes paid, whichever is less. The income tax credit will be paid from July to the end of 2023. To claim the property tax credit, residents must submit an application online or by post between August 15, 2023 and October 1, 2023.
