California

Los Angeles County announced the process of its guaranteed income program, called To breathe. According to the program site, Los Angeles County residents can qualify for monthly payments of $1,000 for two years if they meet various income and age requirements.

To qualify, residents must have been in foster care until age 18 or later and be at least 21 years old but under 24 years old on September 1, 2023. Income requirements must be equal to or less than 100% of the median in the area.

Applications can be submitted electronically from June 20 through July 3 and 200 people will be selected.

Massachusetts

Massachusetts residents who filed their 2021 returns before October 17, 2022 are eligible for a refund equal to approximately 14% of their 2021 income tax due and should receive those payments by December.

However, Massachusetts residents can still file their tax returns before September 15, 2023 and are eligible for benefits from Chapter 62Fthe law that forces Massachusetts to return any leftover income to the taxpayer.

If applicants were submitted in May, payment is due in June.

New Jersey

Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) introduced the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters, or ANCHOR, program in June 2022, a real estate tax relief initiative.

If applicants applied before Feb. 28, about 2 million New Jersey households were eligible for property tax credits of up to $1,500. Residents who received direct deposits or checks should expect more this month.

Georgia

The Georgia Ministry of Revenue issued special tax refunds for 2023 to eligible residents.
