Memories of the legend Tony Bennett: ‘He loved this city’ – New York Post
They were Gaga to Tony
I think of Tony Bennett, who left us last week. . .
Oprah collected his art. . . Sarah Vaughan had his Tokyo canvas. . . Radio City showed his art exhibit. . . he sang for Hillary, Mario Cuomo, Presidents George W. Bush and Clinton. He did a concert at the White House on July 4.
As a soldier, he dug World War II cemeteries. . . A diabetes dinner honored him at the Waldorf. . . In 1952 he headlined the Paramount Theater show. . . Prince Albert presented him with the World Music Award. . . He recorded a CD with Stevie Wonder.
Tony headlined the fundraiser for the San Diego Zoo. . . was quoted in a dog lover’s book. . . performed in a park for greyhounds. . . raised money for four-legged friends from West. . . did ASPCA benefits.
A Queens Boro president, a native of Astoria, once tried to name a street after him.
A new show in his memory (and his songs with Lady Gaga), “Tony and the Lady”, is coming to Westhampton’s Arts Center on September 9. Larry Liso, who plays him: “We walked through Central Park together. He loved this city.”
A few spins for celebs
SEEING Princess Kate tote an Hermès clutch, Meghan nobody Markle is now itching to be the face — or behind — of a luxury clothing company. So who would you rather wear your brand? The future queen of England or California’s permanent zero?

Sienna Miller comforts her Alzheimer’s stricken father, Edwin. Sister Savannah says, “He has withdrawn from the world. His spark is extinguished.”
Liev Schreiber, 55, who has two teens with Naomi Watts, is waiting for a baby with ex-election queen Taylor Neisen. He is expected at the gala at the Natural History Museum in South Fork on Saturday, unless he has to be in the delivery room.
While I was away, Norman Rockwell’s famous multi-million dollar baseball painting, “The Dugout,” was showing off at the Hamptons Art Fair. Last year, Warren Beatty came, but — push his Oscars — no one recognized him.
Drew Barrymore’s ‘discovery’ D’yan Forest, who worked with Seinfeld and won Guinness World Records for oldest working female comedian — 89 years old, does stand-up — and if you can be risky — July 31, she’s at the Gotham Comedy Club.

MORE. I’m just catching up. CNN’s John King. At the Cobblestone pub in Dublin. Listening to music. While inhaling a pint. In a clandestine corner. With a lady.
The unmarried de Blasio is on summer break from teaching at NYU. But in class, lets his phone ring, looks at it, then announces that an important politician is calling – but says he’ll ignore the call for the class. OK? Believe it??!

Matt Lauer attended Southampton’s Animal Shelter thing. Minus girlfriend. Seen lately – always solo. Although I was gone, albeit known, I know. No creature can hide from Madam Adams.
Ma’s pride and joy
ALSO: PR man Jesse Nash’s song “A Mother’s Love” is now in “Beyond the Rush,” an indie starring Oscar nominee Cathy Moriarty (“Raging Bull”), John Savage (“Deer Hunter”), plus Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider. The October 1 shoot is expected to be released on Mother’s Day.
Jesse: “There is no standard for Mother’s Day classics. ‘A Mother’s Love’ could be that number.”

I, I’m back. So you’re in luck, which means you might have found your car in the parking lot.
Only in New York, kids, only in New York.
